How To Create New Habits and Kick Old Ones to the Curb
So yesterday in my previous blog, I said I started “Miracle Morning” well something came up last night. My 2-year-old daughter had a nightmare so she slept with us and instead of waking up at 5am I continued sleeping because my daughter is a very light sleeper. I knew if I woke up she would wake up and that would mean a very unhappy wife. But no fear this is life, life throws you curve balls at you once in a while. The magic with Hal’s program is you can have a “Miracle Morning” whenever you wake up. The other thing you can learn from this is dust yourself off and start again. Tomorrow is a brand new day. It’s not how many times you fall that counts its how many times you keep getting up
Today’s topic I am going to discuss how to create new habits and kick old ones to the curb.
So how do you create a new habit? How many times have you heard “I’m going to start on Monday?” and when Monday comes around nothing happens. Guess what? That’s an excuse, start as fast as you can. I started this “Miracle Morning” on a Friday, when people start to wind down for the weekend I started a new habit, what’s preventing you from not doing yours? For example, if you want to lose weight don’t wait until the end of summer or the new year, start today because chances are you will find an excuse when the time rolls around.
Create small goals for the day. Each morning I started to write down a goal that I wanted to accomplish for the day so for example stay off the phone for two hours, or no coffee at Starbucks or Tim Hortons and here is where this gets interesting. I kind of took this idea from Precision Nutrition so the next day when you focus on a new goal you are still going to focus on your old goal as well, so it’s building. Imagine what you will become in a couple of months or a year!? You will be a totally different person!
Let me know how this goes!
