A Goal Within A Goal
Some of you have been following my progress in regards to me on my journey to get SFG certified. The SFG for those of you that don’t know means Strong First Girya with the kettlebell. Regarding martial arts think of the SFG as the black belt for all of the kettlebell certifications.
For the past few months, I knew I was having a bit of a problem, but I was trying to power through it and ignore the problem. I seem to can’t get the sixty range when it comes to the kettlebell snatches. I need to do 100 reps of snatches with a 24kg kettlebell in under 5 minutes.
When I started training with kettlebells after my first certification a few years ago, that’s all I have been doing. I have never touched the barbell in years because I was getting what I needed with the kettlebells. But with my training as a personal trainer, I know that your body can only deliver a certain amount of cardiac output depends on how much muscle you have on your frame. So if you have a lot of muscle, you can put out a lot of cardiac output, if you don’t have a lot a muscle you can’t put out a lot of cardiac output. Kettlebells do pack on a lot of muscle but they are not the best tool for the job in creating muscle mass as what a barbell can do. I feel I am stagnant with kettlebells.
Cardiac output is the amount of blood the heart pumps out in one minute. Generally speaking, you can increase your cardiac output doing cardio work, but my cardio is excellent thanks to my kettlebell conditioning which leads me to believe that I need to pack on more muscle.
I started to do an intense mass building program by Dan John called “Mass Made Simple” some of the exercises that you are asked to perform though you wouldn’t see in any gym or fitness club. For example, the last exercise you are doing two sets of 30 reps of Back Squats with 95lbs. Or just the bar if you weigh under 135lbs. Logically this makes no sense because anything more than 12 reps you are working on muscular endurance but I have come to believe the longer I spend in the fitness industry there are no set standards anymore. Sometimes you have to do out of the ordinary stuff to get where you want to go, and this is definitely out of the ordinary even though it’s “simple.”
Sometimes when you are working towards a BIG goal, you will come across some smaller goals that need to accomplish first to help get where you want to go. That is ok as long as you keep your eyes on that BIG goal!
For example, if you want to lose 50lbs and you start to exercise you will quickly realize that you need to eat better, so you just made a new goal for yourself.
Creating new problems for yourself is good because you know you are on the road to success. Just as long as you don’t let it deter you off of your final destination.
