Holiday Eating Survival Guide
It is Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada, and most of the time this is when people’s goals for nutrition go out the window. Then they feel bad how much they over eat and they don’t bother eating well again.
It doesn’t have to be like this. What happens if I told you can have whatever you desire and STILL get in the best shape of your life?
It’s an easy concept, but it is a hard nutrition habit to master. When you have your meal, you should eat until you are 80% full. How do you know if you are 80% full? You have to pay attention the next time you eat. Everybody knows when they feel stuffed; that is 100% full. How you can conquer the 80% habit is to eat SLOWLY.
In this fast paced society mostly everyone eats on the go now especially for a busy professional. Even if you have a family, the parents are usually worried about keeping their kids entertained to the point that they forget about themselves, so they eat fast to keep up with their children.
The next time you eat, it should take you 15-20 minutes to eat your meal, and this will help you master the 80% rule. You will find that you won’t be hungry anymore and yet there is still food on your plate. How is this possible?
The reasoning behind it is it takes 15-20 minutes for your “brain-gut” in your stomach to tell your brain that you are full. If you eat your meal in 5 minutes, this signal won’t get to your brain in time, and you will still feel full even though you ate enough.
Give this a shot the next time you have a meal.
