The House That Built Me
My Approach to Everything Fitness
There’s a term for relationship building. First you got to build the foundation and then you can build into bigger and better things and when it comes to fitness I believe it’s no different.
What drove me back in the fitness industry was of my back injury which you can read more about it here. (http://bisbeefitness.com/how-to-go-from-disc/) but before then I just thought it was the same bodybuilding stuff, where day one you perform exercises for the chest and upper back, day two legs, day three arms and calves, and day four abs and shoulders just to give you an idea and you get bored of it pretty quick especially if you don’t have any discipline.
It wasn’t until I bulged the disc in my lower back that I found out that the fitness industry has expanded and it’s more about whole body movement as apposed to the bodybuilding routines.
I started training on the TRX for a good solid few years to help my back and strengthen my core, it did that and then some. Now I train specifically with kettlebells and I feel like I am building up my house again from a solid foundation. I can do a Turkish Get Up with a 36kg kettlebell, there is NO WAY I could of done that a few years ago, and I also believe that there is no way I could of done that without the help of the TRX.
In a way I can’t wait to get back to barbell training again because I know I will be a lot stronger and I will get insane results. The other day I fooled around doing deadlifts and I did 295lbs, keep in mind I haven’t done deadlifts in five years!!!
Most of my clients see incredible results to from someone losing 65lbs in 6 months to someone putting over 100lbs in weight in all three major lifts (Bench, Squat, Deadlift) in three months!
I believe it’s because we aren’t using one tool specifically. Every tool has a purpose and it shows.
The takeaways from this article is you are only as strong as your weakest link. Use tools like the kettlebell to find out where your deficiencies lie and use a multitude of fitness tools at your disposal to be the most well-rounded and you will be stronger than ever.
To build a Ferrari you need to have the engine to support a Ferrari, and your body is no different. Take care of that and the sky is the limit.
