Water is what keeps us alive. We need water more than we need food. You can last without water for a little more than a day, and you are toast. With food, you can last over two months. Besides the benefits of water that everyone knows like it increases energy and reduces fatigue, flushes out toxins, and boosts the immune system just to name a few. I’m going to talk about a few benefits that most of the population have never heard of before.
- Water Increases Flexibility – The fascia layer which wraps around your entire body covering all the muscles. It’s supposed to glide across the muscular layer, but when the fascia tissue is dehydrated because of the lack of water in your system. The fascia sort of sticks to your muscles and bones. Sometimes you can feel a crunchiness under your fingers and hear a cracking or popping sound. If your fascia is well hydrated, you will be able to be flexible more. It’s the fastest route to increase your flexibility.
- Water Helps With Weight Loss- My blog yesterday I talked about controlling your portion sizes by eating slowly. Another way to help with your weight loss goals is by drinking water. After every few swallows of food have a few gulps of water. This will make your stomach fuller, and you will eat less. Feel snacky? Have some water first. If you have water, first you will be less likely to reach for that bag of Doritos, and you will have a more sensible snack.
- Water Can Help You Save Money- On a tight budget? In a recession? Guess what? Water is free!! If you don’t have a purifying system from your fridge or you can’t take water from the tap, you can always invest in an affordable filter like the Brita Atlantis Water Filter Pitcher.
There are a few fun facts about water that you probably haven’t heard of before. I keep getting questions about how much water you should drink. Precision Nutrition recommends 2 liters of water everyday and 1 liter should come from fruits and veggies. You can judge how much water content is in your body by the colour of your urine too. If it’s dark yellow you need to drink more if it’s clear you are good!
